Solea, Needle-Free Laser Dentistry
As an alternative to the dental drill, the Solea laser is quiet, produces no vibration, and dramatically reduces or eliminates discomfort. Many patients have such a pain-free experience with Solea that they skip the anesthesia altogether. That means no more waiting for numbing to take effect or to wear off!
The Oral Health Scan
"The most important part of our new patient experience is the Oral Health Scan because it allows the patient to truly see what we see and understand what we are recommending" Dr. Sheila Farahani
The oral health scan uses our 3D digital scanner to record your whole mouth. This scan takes only 5 minutes and has no radiation, only pictures that are stitched instantly into a model of your mouth! Once the scan is complete, you and Dr. Farahani can look at it together, rotate it, zoom in and out and see everything that is happening with your teeth. You can even see where your teeth are touching to determine if your bite is off! Dr. Farahani feels that this scan is so important in creating a partnership with you that she does not charge for it. That's right! It is completely free during your visit.
This x-ray gives us a full view of all your teeth, jawbone, and jaw joint in one picture. It is an excellent tool for helping us pinpoint jaw joint problems, or diagnose the health of wisdom teeth.
The T-Scan and Digital TMJ Diagnosis
When diagnosing the source of your TMJ soreness and pain is the first step in finding a solution that will work for you. To do this, many dentists use a bite strip to identify high and low spots in your bite that may be causing your pain.
However, a bite strip only shows where—not when and how much—teeth are interacting. For this reason, Dr. Farahani has invested in computerized bite analysis called Tekscan or T-Scan.
Using T-Scan technology, Dr. Farahani measures occlusal force accurately and easily. T-Scan provides a multi-dimensional, highly detailed image with precision accuracy. The system uses disposable sensors that transfer the data to an animated digital image that maps the force and the timing of pressure as you bite down. Using this innovative technology, Dr. Farahani can pinpoint where and how severe the problem is so she can determine the appropriate treatment that will provide the relief you need.
Digital Impressions Means No More Goop!
If you've ever experienced messy impressions taken of your teeth, you will truly appreciate the convenience of digital impressions. With no radiation and no discomfort, we can use one of our two scanners to record your whole mouth in less than 5 minutes. In addition to recording the condition of your teeth and gums during your visit, digital impressions allow us to monitor your teeth over time by overlaying two records and checking for changes. If you have wear, recession or areas of concern, there is no substitute for a digital record. Imagine breaking a tooth and having your replacement be shaped exactly like your natural tooth instead of an approximation. It is the reality of digital dentistry!
We can also use these records to communicate with a lab. The records can be shared electronically to cut down on the time needed for your crowns, nightguards, bridges, veneers, clear aligners or other restorations! Having a digital record allows us to share information about the color of your teeth, shape of your teeth (before they had an issue!) and even the movement of your jaw. If physical models are needed, we use 3D printing technology to create your models with higher accuracy than the old goopy impression material could create.
When you see dental conditions in front of you in full color, it is easy to understand why treatment is needed. This is the benefit that the intraoral camera gives us. The tiny camera delivers full-color pictures of your teeth and mouth directly to the screen in our treatment rooms. You will be empowered to make the right decisions about your oral health when you can see exactly what's going on inside your mouth.
If you want some help relieving anxiety with no lingering after-effects, nitrous oxide is a perfect solution. Also referred to as laughing gas, nitrous oxide produces a very calm, relaxed state and a sense of well-being. You'll be awake the whole time and the effect of the gas only lasts as long as it is on. That means you won't have any drowsiness or disorientation after the visit and you won't need a ride to take you home.
At Harmony Dental Wellness, we also offer other options for dental sedation that will help you feel at ease. Please be sure to discuss your concerns with Dr. Farahani.
VELscope and OralID
VELscope and OralID are a non-invasive technique that helps our dentist detect oral cancer in its earliest stages, which give our patients the best chance of successful treatment and recovery. The device emits a blue light into your mouth that helps us see the abnormal tissue that is present with oral cancer. This treatment is typically combined with your cleaning and checkup appointment.
X-ray images are an essential diagnostic tool that Dr. Farahani uses to see between your teeth and under the gums where a traditional exam can't view. She understands that many patients are concerned about x-ray radiation, which is why she never takes more frequent images than are needed. Digital x-rays emit about 80 percent less radiation than traditional films and leave a smaller footprint on our environment since there are no harsh chemicals needed for processing. Did you know that a full set of x-rays exposes you to less radiation than a flight in a commercial airplane! Our office adheres to all guidelines from the American Dental Association to give you the most thorough, safe and gentle care.
3-D Cone Beam
Our 3-D Cone Beam x-ray allows us to view your teeth, mouth, and jaw joint in a three-dimensional image. This gives Dr. Farahani the ability to see problems with your jaw joint (TMJ), teeth, bone, nerves and roots in more detail. She can even evaluate your airway to help diagnose sleep apnea or chronic sinus problems!. The Cone Beam is one of the many tools we use to diagnose your whole dental health, which contributes to your overall well being.
